This volume contains the following tropes:
- Battle of the Bands: Miku challenges "Shiori" to this at the cultural festival, promising to let him seal her powers if she loses, but demands servitude from him and all the Spirits he's sealed so far if she wins. Miku's school ends up winning in performance, but Raizen wins enough points in the other categories to win overall.
- Darkest Hour: Miku takes her loss so poorly that she brainwashes most of the city, including the sealed Spirits, into becoming Shido's enemies. Tohka was unaffected because she was wearing earplugs, but is then defeated and captured by Ellen. With nobody else to turn to, Shido encounters Kurumi... who surprisingly offers to help him save Tohka.
- Dragged into Drag: Shido unwillingly wears girls' clothes and puts on makeup to make Miku fall for him.
- Evil Diva: Miku uses her abilities to control her fans
- I Love You Because I Can't Control You: to a minor extent, this trope shows itself in Miku as she becomes slightly curious about him when he is immune to her powers. This later escalates.
