People are dragged to Egypt by a strange ring and have their hands lopped off once they get there. It turns out it's all an elaborate plot by the goddess Isis to find a piece she can use to complete the body of her husband, Osiris, and bring him back to life.
Tropes:
- Adaptation Expansion: All the episodes add a lot to turn a two-row (or even just one) comic strip on the back of a blister pack into a 22-minute episode, of course. The story of "The Hand" playset was that Max found himself in a haunted cemetery fighting zombies and a talking tree, none of which made it into the episode. Instead the extremely vague mention of a "scarab ring" in a text box was expanded into a whole episode about Egyptian mythology.
- Bait-and-Switch: When Isis tells her husband to crush Max and his friends, it looks like Osiris is about to stomp on them. He's actually sinking to one knee in gratitude.
- Bowdlerization: The story of Osiris has him being chopped to bits by his brother Set, and Isis finding the pieces and putting him back together. There's one piece she couldn't find, and when you're reading a version that specifies at all, it's his penis. Mighty Max makes it one of his hands.
- Failed a Spot Check: Isis has apparently been trying for centuries to find someone whose hand will bring her husband back to life. From a two-second glimpse of a hieroglyph of a guy with an M on his hat like his, Max figures out that it's his hand that'll finally complete the process. You know, The Chosen One.
