Crockett attempts to help an ex-girlfriend, Barbara Carrow, with her gambling debts to a loan shark named Mickey. Unfortunately, this just results in the loan shark's boss, Vincent DeMarco, framing him for being a Dirty Cop. While dealing with Internal Affairs, his ex is murdered and her husband craves revenge.

Tubbs, meanwhile, tries to figure out a way to get to the loan shark's boss, Lombard.


This episode contains the following tropes:

  • All for Nothing: Jerry Carrow shooting Vincent results in Lombard getting away with his crimes.
  • Asshole Victim: Vincent DeMarco is killed by Jerry Carrow to avenge his wife.
  • Beware the Quiet Ones: Martin Castillo speaks very little but his presence is intimidating even to our heroes.
  • Consummate Professional: Martin Castillo proves to be this with a serious, no nonsense attitude that neither favors nor hurts our protagonists.
  • Da Chief: Martin Castillo assumes this role in this episode and for the rest of the series.
  • Death Glare: Martin gives one of these to Ben Schroeder of Internal Affairs after he shows he has very little evidence against Crockett.
  • Dirty Cops: Vincent frames Crockett as one of these but it is a very loose frame.
  • Downer Ending: Lombard says that he will be suffer no serious penalties because he didn't say anything linking him to the murder of Barbara Carrow.
  • Frame-Up:
    • Vincent attempts to get Crockett arrested for taking bribes.
    • Tubbs returns the favor by framing Vincent for embezzling from his boss.
  • Internal Affairs: Makes an appearance in this episode and are shown to be a bunch of incompetents.
  • The Man Behind the Man: Lombard is the head of the gambling and loan sharking ring.
  • Not Quite the Right Thing: Crockett's attempt to intimidate Vincent just results in him trying a Frame-Up as well as killing Barbara as an example.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Says that Ben has to be an idiot for believing the frame up after he comes up with nothing else.
  • Second Episode Introduction: Martin Castillo makes his first appearance in this episode.
  • Title Drop: Ben Schroeder says Crockett is a One Eyed Jack who only shows one side of his face to his fellow cops.
  • Vigilante Man: Jerry Carrow becomes one of these despite having two children to take care of.
