Recap / Lucifer (2016) S06E05 "The Murder of Lucifer Morningstar"

Go To

When the female angel introduces herself as Rory, short for "Aurora", Chloe realizes that she really is her daughter— with Lucifer, and that she had come from the future. Rory reveals that she was so fraught with abandonment issues that her time travel powers manifested, sending her back in time to confront Lucifer for leaving without any explanation three weeks from now. Deciding that he must have been killed with Azrael's Blade, Lucifer wants to send the knife back to Heaven, but Chloe, not wanting her angelic powers to go away, advises him to search for his killer instead. Meanwhile, Rory meets with Amenadiel, Maze, and Eve, all of whom are tight friends with her mother in the future.

Tropes present in the episode include:

  • Calling the Old Man Out: The sole reason why Rory managed to come back is this. Her anger over Lucifer's abandonment triggered her powers to send her back in time and meet him.
  • Disappeared Dad: Rory reveals that Lucifer will leave a pregnant Chloe three weeks from now, and never come back.
  • Drunk with Power: Azrael's Blade ignites Chloe's feelings of being helpless, causing her to become protective of her powers. She almost kills Lucifer with it, until she manages to repel the blade's effects.
  • Even the Dog Is Ashamed: When dentist Dr. Kyle angrily orders her husband to Get Out! after he lets slip that he slept with dental hygienist Cindy (wrongly believing that his wife had slept with Lucifer), he calls for their dog to go with him. The dog promptly leaps into Dr. Kyle's arms.
  • Honorary Uncle: Rory refers to Maze and Eve as her aunts.
  • Kid from the Future: Rory is Lucifer's daughter with Chloe from an unspecified future, having time traveled to the past when her powers unknowingly manifested.
  • Parental Sexuality Squick: When Chloe and Lucifer learn that the latter's disappearance is due to happen in three weeks, meaning that she's likely already pregnant with Rory, they start trying to figure out when conception occurred. Rory winces and asks them not to do their "sex math" in front of her.
  • Psychopathic Womanchild: Chloe displays traits of this when fighting Lucifer over Azrael's blade smiling psychotically but the affects of the blade were causing her to act like this and she does think that with it she's not helplessness anymore and revels in the power.
  • Saying Too Much: Subverted. Rory calls Eve "Aunt Eve" but just calls Maze by her name, doesn't recognize Amenadiel and knows very little about him beyond "he's Lucifer's brother". What seems to be her accidentally revealing grim hints for their future turns out to be deliberate trolling on her part.
  • Troll: Rory started to mess with Eve, Maze and Amenadiel the very second she met them, just because it's fun. Apparently, she learned that from Maze.
  • Wham Shot: After conversing with Amenadiel, Ella secretly opens a whiteboard that shows her research about Lucifer and other celestials, meaning that she might have known about or at least suspected their divinity all along.
