Recap / Learning How To Be A Princess Chapter 16 "Thoughts Of A King"

Go To

King agonizes about his future after reading an important letter from his sister back home.

Tropes That Appear In This Chapter:

  • Couldn't Find a Pen: Demons traditionally write personal letters to loved ones using their own blood. Eda is concerned by this when catching King about to cut his palm open to write a response letter to his younger sister.
Eda: Why are you trying to cut yourself open for!?
King: How else am I supposed to write a letter!?
    Eda: (incredulously) With INK!?
  • Double Agent: Subverted. King assumes Kikimora is this, working for Emperor Belos while secretly feeding information back to New Demon Land. She immediately shuts that idea down in disgust, explaining that thanks to everything that Belos has done for her over the years, she pledges loyalty to both the Boiling Isles and her demonic homeland.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Hawk isn't impressed when Eagle going against her explicit orders not to attack King or Kikimora results in the former becoming stronger and gaining a new ability, which could potentially make things more difficult in the future.
  • The Reveal:
    • Kikimora is revealed to be an informant for New Demon Land.
    • Eagle is confirmed to be an older, alternate version of Gus, who became romantically involved with Skara. His and Hawk's discussion also reveals that they come from a Bad Future decimated by a new war between witches and demons, and that Amity was one of the many causalities in said war.
  • Secret-Keeper: Kikimora becomes one for King, while noting that he's far more proficient at hiding his status as royalty compared to Luz, who has had a bad track record so far.
