Recap / Kingdom Hearts I Mission 05 Traverse Town 2

Go To

With two Gummi pieces retrieved from the worlds, Sora and company return to Traverse Town to find Leon, eventually finding him in a sewer. Leon gives Sora a mysterious gem, explaining that every world has a Keyhole that contains its heart. The Heartless seek the Keyholes, and it's up to Sora, as the Keyblade's chosen wielder, to seal them to stop the Heartless. However, Leon has no such knowledge on Gummi ships and leads them to Cid. Cid explains that the new blocks will help them access new worlds and offers to install the block into the trio's ship, but not before giving Sora an old book to give to a mysterious wizard.

Sora manages to find the wizard's house in the Third District, but seemingly hallucinates Kairi being present there. The house's owner, Merlin, introduces himself, having been ordered by King Mickey to train the Keyblade wielder in magic. He is also accompanied by the Fairy Godmother, who reveals that the gem Leon gave Sora is a summon gem that summons others to aid the user in battle. The gem Leon has given him, in fact, has the ability to summon Simba. Merlin also advises Sora to return to Cid again.

Leaving the house, the trio is ambushed by more Heartless, only for Riku to seemingly appear out of nowhere and save them. Sora is absolutely delighted, wondering if Riku has found Kairi, and attempts to recruit Riku into his team, but Donald refuses.

At a house in the Third District, Leon explains that he, Cid, Aerith, and Yuffie were originally from another world. However, the evil witch Maleficent had taken over the world, forcing them to flee, so Leon advises Sora to seal the Keyholes quickly. He also indicates that Traverse Town has its own Keyhole, somewhere in the Second District. As it so happens, Maleficent herself is watching, and slowly convinces Riku that Sora has betrayed him for Donald and Goofy.

Sora tracks down the bell in the Second District and activates the world's Keyhole. Another Guard Armor appears, but this one has the ability to reverse its own body, becoming an Opposite Armor. Like the last one, the Opposite Armor is vanquished, and Sora seals the Keyhole before leaving to search for more Keyholes...

Tropes:

  • Foreshadowing:
    • Once again, Sora is the only one who's able to see Kairi at Merlin's house, hinting that her heart is inside his.
    • When Riku picks up the Keyblade, he's able to hold on to it for much longer than Leon is and throws it back to Sora, which is the first hint that he's its real chosen wielder.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Riku slowly begins to dip into the darkness with jealousy due to Sora having his own friends and having seemingly replaced him.
  • Summon Magic: The Fairy Godmother introduces Sora to this kind of magic.
