Issa Rae, born Jo-Issa Rae Diop on January 12, 1985 in Los Angeles, California, is an American actress, writer, and producer. She first garnered attention for her work on the YouTube web series Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl. In 2017, she subsequently gained further recognition for creating, co-writing, and starring in the HBO adaptation, Insecure. She received Golden Globe and Emmy nominations for her role on Insecure.
