Recap / King Of The Hill S 10 E 15 Edumacating Lucky

Go To

Lucky asks Peggy to help him get his GED in the hopes of improving his chances of marrying Luanne, but Peggy is more concerned about keeping Lucky away from her niece.

Tropes:

  • Hidden Depths: Lucky is surprisingly good at reading comprehension - he correctly points out that the river in Huckleberry Finn is meant to be a symbolism of some kind.
  • Imagine Spot: Peggy has one of Luanne's married life with Lucky, involving multiple children with Luanne feeding one of them soda instead of breast milk, staged accidents for settlements, and eventually fighting another woman on a Jerry Springer-esque show. All set to banjo music.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Peggy, in her jealousy, makes Lucky (and by extension Jimmy, as he cheated off of Lucky) fail his GED test by teaching him wrong. She comes to regret this the instant Luanne announces her pregnancy.
  • My Greatest Failure: Lucky treats failing the GED as this, refusing to even marry Luanne until Peggy convinces him to drop his attitude. Lucky also is never shown trying to take his GED again after this episode.
  • Shotgun Wedding: Lucky mentions to the Hills that most of his relatives were forced into these situations, as they all failed to accomplish the unrealistic things they set out to do before they would allow themselves to marry, and that his marriage to Luanne would be the first not to be one. Ultimately, he ends up undergoing one himself with Hank holding a shotgun, although in his case it's staged and Lucky's the one that insists on it.
  • Wham Line: Luanne announces that she's pregnant after Lucky fails his GED test.
    • Lucky announces that he wants to marry Luanne. Peggy looks like her head is about to explode at this news.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Hank is angry at Peggy when he finds out that Peggy intentionally is sabotaging Luanne and Lucky, pointing out that Luanne deserves to be with someone who makes her happy regardless of what Peggy wants. He says that as her (de facto) parents, their role is to make sure they get hitched, and that's all.
