Recap / Katmandu The End Of A Tail

Go To

About 250 years have passed since the final fierce battle between the Highland tribe, led by Liska Mitsel-eman and the Red Canyon tribe, led by Rakon, the latter being Liska's most hated enemy since their younger days. That battle ended with the victory of the Highland tribe and the complete annihilation and absortion of the Red Canyon one, as well as the death of Rakon.

Unfortunately, that victory came with a terrible price, not only for that tribe, but for the entire planet Katmandu: In addition to losing many inhabitants during that battle, which was one step away from becoming a true genocide for the Highland tribe, Liska lost her life during the latter, after sacrificing hers in order to prevent her tribe from being annihilated during the surprise attack by the Red Canyon tribe in the middle of the night.

Furthermore, as if this were not enough, that conflict may have been the trigger for the outbreak of the war between the Hoplites and the Velites, which lasted more than 200 years.

In order for Liska's life and deeds to live on for generations and not remain merely a family history, Leahtrah Middlesmith-Leonius, the direct descendant of the Mitsel-eman clan, for some unspecified reason, began working for the Western Heritage Museum as a curator, in order to make her ancestor's story known to the world, and possibly to prevent the events that transpired in her foremother's life from ever happening again.

  • Art Shift:
    • Shawntae Howard's art used in the story itself shows a dramatic shift from his last issues he did, when his art style was very anime-inspired to a somewhat more hybrid style, being the most notorious change is the characters' noses, which were drawn more realistically, rather than the cartoony "button nose" style used in the earlier issues.
    • Liska's pin-up illustration done by Terrie Smith is done in a more different style, compared with her also Animesque style she used, as Liska now looks more like a proper orange tabby cat rather than the vixen-like proportions she used to draw her at first.
  • Distant Finale: This story is the final tale of whole story, and it's basically a brief resume about Liska and her life, as well as the way how she died at the end.
  • Minimalist Cast: Outside the dioramas from the people of Liska's era, the only characters with talking roles are Leah and a calico-like girl who talks with her.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: There's no explanation about the whereabouts and final fates of Leah's children, since this is the last issue of the whole narrative, nor Thorin. Also, there's no mention what happened with any remaining surviving named character from Liska's era and their also fates after the final battle against the Red Canyon tribe.
