Jane the Super-Stressed Mother-Wife-Writer

"I was paralyzed, and I was forced to lie there and listen to what everybody really thought and said, and things are different now. I can't even tell what's real and what's not, but with the cameras I can. I can go back. I can rewind. I can make sure."
Petra

Michael tries to prepare for law school, which causes stress in his marriage to Jane. Rogelio wraps up shooting Tiago. Petra has a proposition for Catalina.

Tropes:

  • Acceptable Breaks from Reality: Discussed in-universe, when Jane says that there are great differences between how people would act in fiction and in real life, but it's fine because of creative liberty.
  • Adam and Eve Plot: This is how Rogelio finally decides to end Tiago.
  • Book Ends: In-universe, Tiago was supposed to end in the cobbler's shed where it began, but Rogelio dislikes the idea.
  • Grand Finale: Of the Show Within a Show Tiago. Rogelio has trouble ending it appropriately, and eventually settles on Tiago and Ava being the actual, real Adam and Eve.
  • Horrible Camping Trip: Subverted. Jane, as the narrator reminds us, hates camping, so when Michael suggests pulling off of a traffic-filled highway and buckling down at a camping ground for the night, it seems like it's heading in this direction (especially when they fight about how to put up the tent). But she and Michael use it to hash out their issues, and it actually winds up being very relaxing.
  • Plot Allergy: Michael has an unforeseen allergy to the essential oils.
  • Slippery Slope Fallacy: Both Michael and Jane spiral when they start thinking of the possible consequences of their problems.
  • So Proud of You: Alba is moved to tears by Jane's fictional depiction of her life in her thesis, and tells Jane that she's proud of her.
