Jane the Mom Covered in Vomit...Who has a really cool new job opportunity!

"I think we should be open to things changing."
Jane

Jane gets a new job with Chloe Leland, a publisher for a major firm. Rafael's plea bargain for tampering with his father's books to cover his art theft falls through, and he prepares to go to jail for nine months. Petra finally finds the maternal instinct within her, quelling all fears of raising Anna and Elsa without Rafael for the nine months. Xo and Bruce make plans to move in with one another and Rogelio joins his girlfriend Darci's reality show. Luisa introduces her new girlfriend Eileen, actually Rose after undergoing plastic surgery and using an exact duplicate to evade all of Rafael's tests. Michael dies from unforeseen complications with his heart due to his gunshot wound while waiting to finish his LSAT. The show skips ahead three years as the now-widowed Jane is rushing Mateo to get ready, as the two don't want to be late for "the wedding".

Tropes

  • Expository Hairstyle Change: Jane has shorter hair three years later.
  • Ferris Wheel Date Moment: As seen in the page image, Jane and Michael kissed on a Ferris wheel on one of their first dates, when they made it exclusive. They recreate this date in the present and kiss again on the Ferris wheel.
  • Grand Romantic Gesture: Michael recommends one for Rogelio, in order to win Darci back, since it worked for him and Jane.
  • Improbable Age: Chloe Leland publishing her first book at nineteen is stretching it but not impossible, but it's also mentioned she got her position at a rather young age.
  • Instant Web Hit: Rogelio's rant about how his film cut the nude scene goes viral, tanking his reputation.
  • Match Cut: From an overhead shot of the twins' mobile to the Ferris wheel at the carnival.
  • Pregnancy Scare: Jane's period is late, and she thinks it's a sign that she's pregnant.
  • Properly Paranoid: Rafael has a myriad of tests run on Luisa's new girlfriend to make sure she's not a criminal with a fake face. Rose knows that, and had an identical person do the tests in her stead.
  • Secret Test of Character: Chloe Leland gives Jane an assignment to summarize a nonfiction memoir that's full of lies to see what her reaction would be. When Jane, having done the research, tells her not to publish it, she's impressed.
  • Time Skip: This episode skips three years after Michael's death.
  • Unfortunate Item Swap: Jane accidentally swaps the envelopes containing her manuscript and Rogelio's nude promotional photos, and submits the latter to Chloe.
  • Unreliable Narrator: Discussed by the narrator throughout the episode, who claims he isn't one. Or is he?
  • Wham Episode: Possibly the most Wham episode of the series. Michael's death marks a very big change.
