You and Kou found themselves under attack by a love curious freak of nature that took on the appearance between the two, eventually fending it off and retreating to the Grandcypher for help. As attention is divided between healing the two and finding out who the assailant is, a girl drops in unannounced and suddenly glomps You.
Tropes
- Bait-and-Switch: Much of the early chapters seem to indicate that the freak of nature is Kuzure. In reality, he intentionally becomes the villain to give Sui a chance to come clean about her identity.
- Becoming the Mask: Kuzure invokes this to "Sui" as she's way too blunt with her words, which could blow her cover trying to learn what love is. Once she finally learns what love is, she's afraid that she will never be loved because of her true identity.
- Dead All Along: Sui died at a young age due to sickness. The Sui that meets the crew is an offshoot of the freak of nature.
- Disney Villain Death: The freak of nature meets their demise by falling off the island and into the Crimson Horizon.
- Doppelgänger Gets Same Sentiment: Double subverted. While Kuzure initially calls the offshoot freak of nature as a demon, he eventually calls her his daughter one more time as the two fall to the Crimson Horizon.
- Eye Scream: Kuzure willingly gouged his own eyes after losing his family.
- Foreshadowing: Sui is quite blunt with her words and is curious about the concept of love, just like the freak of nature that attacked You and Kou early on.
- Friendship Trinket: Misangas are commonly referred to as friendship bracelets, with the color determining if it's designed for friendship or for genuine love.
- Innocently Insensitive: Because Sui is still learning about the concept of love, she's way too blunt pointing out You's love for Kou and eventually regrets doing so.
- What Is This Thing You Call "Love"?:
- Sui is curious about love as Kuzure never bothered to explain what it is despite telling her much more stories. One of the things she eventually learns is that love comes in different types, causing her to apologize You for how insensitive she was.
- The freak of nature is much more malicious with this goal as it is willing to toy others to satisfy its curiosity.
- We Really Do Care: Even though Wulf and Renie are mainly together due to aligned interests, the former deliberates if he should leave before the relationship gets too complicated. Renie finding Wulf alone is the dark is enough to convince him to stay.
