Recap / Granblue Fantasy A 37 Year Olds Sauna Awakening

Go To

The Time a 37-Year-Old Former Imperial Soldier Got His Life in Order by Awakening to the Greatness That Is Saunas

Deliford's most recent health check came in the mail; long story short, results are horrible. Noticing how depressed Deliford is recently, the crew takes him to a sauna so he could release that tension.

Unknown to anyone, including Deliford, this one act is the beginning of his 180 degree turn to a better future.

Tropes

  • Awesome, yet Impractical: The Maddening Tub's notoriously cold water is stated to bring out the ultimate sensation in coming alive. However, the water is too cold that even its structure is unable to handle it, causing it be broken until Deliford's second visit.
  • Bookends: One of the first and last things that happened in the event is Deliford receiving the results for his recent health checkup, the main difference being the contents of those results.
  • Fantasy-Forbidding Father: Deliford's parents heavily oppose his job as a skyfarer, reasoning that he has to settle down for his upcoming child and that his brother never sent any letters ever since his departure. It's only when his wife sides with him that they both relent.
  • Foreshadowing:
    • During Deliford's first visit at Tranquil Wellness, he sees a sign stating "Beware, even the gods would go mad". After travelling to many saunas and his return to Tranquil Wellness, he goes to the area where the sign leads to, the Maddening Tub.
    • Deliford notices that his second time in the cold-water bath felt less cold due to a "veil" protecting him and eventually warming up as he stays still. This pops up again for one last decision as the correct choice to complete the Maddening Tub.
  • Informed Ability: Seofon is noted to be one of the two that is capable of taking on the Maddening Tub. He immediately gives up trying to get in, excusing himself as having a stomach problem.
  • Mundane Made Awesome: The Maddening Tub is too cold that seeing it active is enough to draw in a crowd of onlookers, with Deliford's friends and crewmates cheering him on as he and Yngwie tackles it.
  • Overly Long Name: The full title of the event, The Time a 37-Year-Old Former Imperial Soldier Got His Life in Order by Awakening to the Greatness That Is Saunas, is 113 characters long.
  • The Teetotaler: Downplayed. While Yngwie is fine with drinking beer after a sauna, he chooses coffee milk instead when he's with a large group at Tranquil Wellness.
  • Title Drop: Downplayed. Yngwie calls Deliford's first sensation from the fresh-air bath as "awakening to the greatness that is saunas."
  • Yank the Dog's Chain: For most of the event, Deliford is unable to come alive due to different reasons. He is interrupted by a ruffian he came across earlier in his first visit to Tranquil Wellness, goes to sleep before the moment at Valtz Health Center, passes out after staying too long in the cold-water bath in Cerulean Spa, and accidentally went to the wilderness for the Snow-White Sauna. It's only during his second visit to Tranquil Wellness that he gets to experience it.
