Season 4, Episode 16:

...I Lose Myself

Written by Andrew Chambliss and Ian Goldberg
Directed by Michael E. Satrazemis

Morgan and the group are forced to contend with Martha's wrath as they try to leave for Alexandria.

Tropes:

  • Brick Joke: Ultimately the thing that saves the group from their poisoning is beer, which Jim had spent several episodes not shutting up about. This only comes an episode after Jim's death.
  • Continuity Nod: Strand and Alicia drink together side by side, much like how he used to do with her mother.
  • Earn Your Happy Ending: Morgan ultimately recovers from his isolationist worldview and accepts that he must become part of a community again after his trauma from the Savior War on the main show. He now has a factory full of viable supplies and has convinced Madison's group to join him in becoming a caravan of do-gooders, convinced that they must help as many people as possible.
  • Fate Worse than Death: Martha doesn't mind dying since she believes walkers are the only purely strong things in the world due to how they mindlessly kill everything they find. What she does mind is how Morgan handcuffs her to the car so that she won't hurt anybody after she turns. It succeeds in driving her crazy.
  • Status Quo Is God: Despite the show building up the group going to join Alexandria all season, it would ultimately destroy the point of the spin-off taking place in a different part of the country with another cast of characters. Naturally, Morgan decides at the end of the episode they will not go to Alexandria and stay where they are.
