Tropes for "The Mysterious Giant Youkai" include:

• Adaptational Heroism: While she wasn't evil in Hisoutensoku, Alice helps Daiyousei track down Cirno rather than using Cirno as a test subject for the Goliath Doll.
• Adapted Out:
  • While Meliing's and Sanae's stories are alluded to, they don't actually happen in this adaptation.
  • Cirno doesn't fight Sanae, Marisa, and Alice like she does in Hisoutensoku.
• The Cameo:
  • Byakuren, Nazrin, and Shou can be seen at the Youkai Mountain stall.
  • Alice's Goliath Doll shows up at the end of the episode.
• Credits Montage: The end credits play over a montage of all of Cirno's appearances in the previous episodes.
• It's Probably Nothing: Koishi suggests this to Satori when she wonders to herself if Utsuho was the best pick to guard Former Hell. Little does Satori know that as she speaks Utsuho is attempting to melt Cirno.
• Kansas City Shuffle: Alice helps Daiyousei and Cirno look for the kappa's advertising balloon in order to distract them from realizing that the giant shadow Cirno saw at the beginning of the episode was the Goliath Doll Alice had been experimenting on.
• Running Gag: Cirno managing to accidently freeze Daiyousei while attacking.
• Snot Bubble: Meiling has one when she sleeps standing up at her post. (The shape of the bubble looks vaguely like the Giant Catfish, which she's canonically dreaming about.)
• Wingding Eyes: Suwako's hat gets swirly eyes after being thrown at Okuu to save Cirno and Daiyousei.
• Wrong Genre Savvy: As in the game, Sanae gets very excited when she believes the advertising balloon is a Humongous Mecha.
