Go To

"Witch Day 3" is an episode of Duncanville that was first available to stream on Hulu on October 18, 2022. Directed by Roy Burdine. Written by Julie Thacker Scully. Episode Code Number 3LAZ09. Cf. 'Witch Day 2' from Season 2.

In order to get authentic Witch Day decorations for the Harris home, Annie and Jack desecrate the grave of one of Annie's ancestors, Winifred, by removing the tombstone from the cemetery and bringing it to their front yard.

The Harris family go to the Witch Day celebrations which are now sponsored by American Liberty Bank. Duncan splits off from his family as soon as he spots Bex (Betsy Sodaro), Mia (Rashida Jones), Yangzi (Yassir Lester) and Wolf (Zach Cherry).

Duncan and his friends go to Mr. Mitch's immersive haunted house but are disappointed to see it's just Mr. Mitch (Wiz Khalifa) doing a lame puppet show. The rest of the Harris family are likewise disappointed by the Tunnel of Blood ride, which is just a Witch Day-themed advertisement for American Liberty Bank.

Duncan and his friends are hanging out at the abandoned R.V. when they all get a message threatening to publish their most embarrassing videos if they don't pay $200 in Cheesecake Warehouse gift cards by midnight. So Duncan and his friends go to the Cheesecake Warehouse to obtain the ransom. Then they are abducted by a well-rated Uber driver who takes them to Bloodville and chases them through a cornfield.

Back at the Harris home, the rest of the family are also having a scary time as Winifred's ghost tries to woo Jack. It turns out that Jack is the spitting image of his ancestor Jackarias Harris, who allegedly failed to show up for his wedding to Winifred. Now Winifred wants to kill Jack so he can be her eternal husband.

Tropes

  • Answer Cut: Duncan wonders how the Uber driver could possibly know what path Duncan and his friends are taking through the cornfield. Cut to a wide shot showing the top of Duncan's red hair moving through the cornfield.
  • Fictional Counterpart: The Cheesecake Warehouse is obviously the fictional counterpart of the Cheesecake Factory.
  • Freeze-Frame Bonus: The Cheesecake Warehouse has a sign reading "Cliff Notes of Menu Available."
  • Parental Sexuality Squick: Once the dolls possessed by the spirits of Jackarias and Winifred are banished to the attic, Annie and Jack celebrate by dancing a jig, which Annie modernizes with twerking. Jing declares that of everything she's seen today, her parents' dance is what will give her nightmares later.
  • Pun: Bex hopes she's not "too corny" putting corn in her mouth while running through the Bloodville cornfield.
  • Uncanny Family Resemblance: Winifred looks a lot like Annie, and Jackarias looks just like Jack but with mutton chop sideburns.
