First Aired - February 9, 1967
Sergeant Joe Friday and Officer Bill Gannon are working in the internal affairs division. A rookie police officer, Paul Culver, is working undercover in the narcotics division. An armed robbery of a liquor store in Hollywood is reported, and the clerk says Culver is the one who robbed him. Despite a positive identification in the line-up and thinking he failed the lie-detector tests, Culver swears he is innocent.
Just the Tropes, ma'am:
- Bottle Episode: The whole episode takes place in the interrogation room.
- Character Filibuster: One of the most famous, told by Joe Friday when Culver is thinking of quitting.
- Criminal Doppelgänger: Turns out the person who robbed the liquor store is someone who looks just like Culver. The clerk and even the police are surprised by how close the two look.
