Recap / Digimon Ghost Game E51 "Headless"

Go To

Shortly after Hokuto introduces Hiro, Ruli and Kiyoshiro to the new Digivice he and several Digimon developed, Ruli tells Hiro that viral rumors about a "Headless Ghost Curse" in his school are circulating the internet, where students would run into headless ghosts in armor and show up unconscious with a red ring around their heads. The victims would then become one of the headless ghosts. Believing it was the work of a headless Digimon, Hiro investigates the incident and finds out the helmet that his history teacher, Okonogi, shown to several victims of the incident, was no helmet but the head of a powerful Digimon.

  • Adaptational Nice Guy: When Hiro finds DarkKnightmon's severed head, Angoramon warns him that it is a powerful Digimon that would do anything to achieve its goals, something that the Digimon Reference Book mentions and his Digimon Fusion counterpart outright demonstrated. But when Hiro and Ruli meets DarkKnightmon personally, turns out he's a noble knight with a strong sense of honor. After he's defeated by Canoweissmon, he relinquishes his hatred against humanity over his head being passed around by people quick and congratulates Hiro for a valiant battle before peacefully making his leave.
  • Degraded Boss: DarkKnightmon debuted in Digimon Fusion as Bagramon's twin brother and one of that series' major antagonists. He makes his return in Digimon Adventure: as a corrupted version of Tailmon. In here, he's one of the Digimon of the Week.
  • Freeze-Frame Bonus: If one pays attention when Hiro and Ruli were rushing to school to search for DarkKnightmon's head and return it to its owner, one can see they arrived by riding Ginryumon.
  • Losing Your Head: DarkKnightmon peeked through a portal to the Digital World one day and got decapitated because of the portal closing. It doesn't seem to affect him physically despite an injury like that would be assuredly lethal to most Digimon.
  • Wham Episode: This marks the episode where our protagonist's Digivices were upgraded to the Digivice -VV-, which allows Gammamon to directly Warp Digivolve into Canoweissmon without an intermediary.
  • Weirdness Magnet: Discussed. At the start of the episode, Ruli tells Hiro about the "Headless Ghost Curse" of Hazakura Academy going viral. One can also see a SNS message on her phone calling Hazakura a "crazy school".
