Recap / Code Prime - R1: Rebellion, 30 "Battle at Kyushu"

Go To

When a former member of the Japanese Government declares the rebirth of Japan and leads an invasion of Area 11, Optimus and Lelouch must decide where their team stand. Meanwhile, Dreadwing learns from Euphemia about Suzaku's behavior and heads off to try to help the Honorary Britannian.

  • Accidental Public Confession: Dreadwing accidentally overhearing Euphemia's confession to Suzaku, though at the same time, he was glad they cared about each other.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Just as it looks like the Britannian forces are about to get gunned down by Gun-Ru, the Autobots and Black Knights arrive to turn the tide.
  • Boring, but Practical: Sawazaki and the Chinese Federation manage to beat the Knights of the Round, Suzaku, and Dreadwing through a combination of Anti-Air and Divide and Conquer. Were it not for the Autobots and Black Knights, all six would have been killed.
  • Enemy Mine: Sawazaki hopes that the Autobot-Black Knight Alliance will do this. They do... but with Britannia, not the Chinese Federation, much to Sawazaki’s shock and horror.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Dreadwing is shocked when he finds out that Megatron destroyed Cybertron with Dark Energon. This leads him to working with Euphemia and Suzaku against Megatron at the end of the chapter. He's also shocked when he learns from Suzaku that Megatron used the Cortical Psychic Patch on the Honorary Britannian.
  • Everyone Has Standards: When Optimus and Zero ask Tohdoh, Kaguya and Katase about whether or not they should ally with Sawazaki, all three of them strongly advise against it, citing the man as a coward and a slimy opportunist.
  • It Has Been an Honor: When they were about to be eliminated by the Gun-Ru Knightmares, Dreadwing declares that it has been an honor fighting alongside Suzaku, even referring to the Honorary Britannian as a brother to him.
  • Mercy Lead: A much larger example than normal, in that the Knights of the Round, Suzaku, and Dreadwing outright let the Black Knights leave without any intention to chase them as repayment for saving them from the Chinese Federation forces.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech:
    • Sawazaki gives one to Suzaku once he figures out that he’s piloting the Lancelot. It’s primarily to distract him so that the anti-air batteries can shoot him down, and have the Gun-Ru surround him.
Sawazaki: This is Minister Sawazaki, is that Prime Minister Kururugi's son in the pilot seat? I see, I didn't know he had a son like you.
Suzaku: This has nothing to do with my father! We came here to put an end to this fighting! I will accept your surrender!
Sawazaki: You want to rob Japan of its dream of freedom?
Suzaku: Freedom has to come the right way! Not like this!
Sawazaki: You act out of selfishness! It's justice without ideology!
      Suzaku: No, you're wrong…!

Sawazaki: You had better surrender, Suzaku. Your transforming friend, as well as the Knights of the Round have no chance at surviving. However, given that you are Prime Minister Kururugi's son, I guarantee that you'll be very well treated my boy.
Suzaku: I decline! I'll never abandon my friends, and if I used my father's name for this, I'd never forgive myself! This is between you and me, leave the Knights of the Round out of this!
Dreadwing: Seeing how he has the advantage Suzaku, it is highly unlikely he will.
Sawazaki: Your mechanical friend is indeed correct, Suzaku. I have four of Britannia's elite pilots right in my grasp. There is no way I'd ever let such a golden opportunity slip through my fingers!
Dreadwing: You wear us down with sheer numbers as opposed to direct confrontation. You are no warrior, and you have no honor!
Sawazaki: There is no such thing as honor when it comes to war and victory, alien. Strategy and opportunity are keys to obtaining victory. Anyone who says otherwise is either foolish or deceitful.
    • Todhoh and Katase both give one to Sawazaki, calling him a cowardly opportunist, who fled with his tail in between his legs once it was clear that Japan was going to lose the war against Britannia.
Sawazaki: I don't understand! Why would the Autobots and Black Knights work alongside Britannia?! They're enemies!
Tohdoh: We could ask you the same thing.
Sawazaki: Tohdoh… and Katase?! You're alive?!
Katase: Reports of my death were greatly exaggerated.
Sawazaki: Why… why are you fighting me though?! Shouldn't be working together as comrades?! Don't you care about Japan?!
Tohdoh: The Black Knights and the Autobots protect the freedom of all sentient beings.
Sawazaki: That's exactly what I'm trying to do! I'm trying to free Japan from Britannia!
Katase: You fled the country the second our cabinet fell apart! You sold yourself to the Chinese Federation and are now about to sell out the country to them too! You are a disgrace, Atsushi Sawazaki!
  • Reports of My Death Were Greatly Exaggerated: When Katase contacts Sawazaki, he’s surprised to see that he’s still alive, with the general telling him that the reports of his death were Britannian Propaganda.
