Recap / Cat Dog S 1 E 14 Nightmare CatDogPig

Go To

Nightmare and CatDogPig both serve as the fourteenth episode of the first season of CatDog, originally airing October 21, 1998.

  • Nightmare: CatDog watches a monster movie about a monster with bread for its head called "Toothpick Head". After the film, Dog becomes so scared that he thinks that Toothpick Head might be real after all.
  • CatDogPig: CatDog cannot agree on anything, so they need to hire a new friend to serve as a tiebreaker.

Nightmare contains examples of:

  • Multilayer Façade: Winslow rips off his head to reveal he is wearing a Toothpick Head mask, then Cat rips it off revealing a Cat mask, then Winslow rips off Cat's head to reveal a Winslow mask. Dog, meanwhile, isn't wearing any masks.
  • Real After All: At the end of the episode, after CatDog flees their home, Winslow sees the real Toothpick Head raiding the fridge for a midnight snack.
  • The End... Or Is It?: Shown in the movie after the boys watch it at the beginning of the episode, then, at the end of the episode, both dripping in blood. Winslow also Lampshades the trope with an "Or is it?" after he is unmasked following his prank and later reveals himself to be wearing a Toothpick Head mask.
Winslow: (after scaring CatDog out of the house) Oldest trick in the book! (sees the real Toothpick Head raiding the fridge and screams)
Toothpick Head: Second oldest trick in the book! (growls as the scene fades to black)
(The End? appears dripping in blood)
  • Unusually Uninteresting Sight: As they wait for the arrival of Toothpick Head, CatDog find Dracula and Frankenstein's Monster inexplicably in their bedroom. The duo barely react to the other monsters, but get alarmed when they see Toothpick Head's shadow.
