Damian is pushed to try to make some friends at school, but complains that he's apparently intimidating. His family gives him suggestions on how to connect with other kids his age.

- Bread Milk Eggs Squick: Damian's interests include art, animals, swords, world domination, and defeating those who insult his family's honor.
- Great Escape: When Bruce asks Jason for suggestions on ways Damian can make friends Jason deadpans that he saved his best friend from prison, which Bruce responds is less than helpful for Damian making friends at school.
- Multi-Part Episode: "Opening Up" is split into two parts, making up episodes 23 and 24.
- No Social Skills: Damian is a capable, deadly fighter who is more than a match for almost anything Gotham can throw at him...but he's terrible at making friends and a lot of kids find him intimidating.
- Not Helping Your Case: Damian tells Bruce about what his teacher said, about how other kids find him intimidating. He states that he is not intimidating as he slices the head off of a training dummy.
- Reaction Shot: After Damian answers the question of what he's interested in with a casual "I've always been intrigued by world domination." there's a pause while Steph, Duke, Bruce and Jason's reactions to this statement are shown.
- Troubling Unchildlike Behavior: His family reacts with varying levels of discomfort and amusement when trying to find things Damian could use to connect with his classmates as he brings up his interest in swords, world domination and defeating those who impinge his family's honor (which leads to Bruce forbidding him from joining the tennis team). Amusingly there's another Gotham Academy student with a serious interest in swords and weapons, Mia "Maps" Mizoguchi, who he did befriend in mainstream comics, but she doesn't seem to be in his class here.
