Recap / Attack on TItan S4 E19: Two Brothers

Go To

Tropes:

  • All for Nothing: Colt pleads to Zeke to not scream, at least not until Falco is far enough from him to not be affected by his scream. Sympathetic as he is, Zeke screams anyway, titanizing Falco and killing Colt in the process.
  • And Then John Was a Zombie: Falco, Nile Dok and Dot Pixis are turned into Titans along with everyone else that drank Zeke's spinal fluid.
  • Character Death: Colt is fatally burned when Falco is titanized, and later Galliard is eaten by Falco's mindless titan form.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: For both Eren and Zeke
    • Though evil is a strong term for Eren, despite all the questionable things he has been doing this season, he never intended for Zeke to actually use his scream to turn everyone into Titans. When he sees what Zeke is about to do, he tries in vain to call out to him to wait.
    • Subverted in the case with Zeke. Colt begs Zeke not to use his scream until Falco is out of range, thinking he wouldn't endanger Falco's life, only to be proven wrong. Though Zeke is sympathetic, and is visibly unhappy with Falco becoming a Titan, he doesn’t place him above the mission.
  • Freeze-Frame Bonus: While going through Erens memories after his head is blown off and he makes contact with Zeke, we see a Goth Mikasa and Armin with glasses, reminiscent of the “Attack on School Castes” faux comics.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: A fatally wounded Galliard offers himself to be eaten by a titanized Falco, saving him and Reiner in the process.
  • History Repeats: Much like the very start of the series, the Shiganshina District becomes infested with Titans thanks to Zeke triggering those who have injested his spinal fluid.
  • I Lied: A flashback shows that Eren has agreed to go along with Zeke's Eldian euthinization plan. When they meet at what would appear to be a convergence point for all subjects of Ymir, Eren reveals that he never intended to work with Zeke at all and plans to use the Founding Titan for his own goal of saving Eldia.
  • Improbable Aiming Skills: Gabi, with an anti-Titan artillery rifle, a gun that is hard to be handled by a 12 years old kid, manages to decapitate Eren, that was at a reasonable distance from her and running to meet Zeke.
  • Off with His Head!: Gabi is able to decapitate Eren with an anti-Titan artillery rifle just as he's about to reach Zeke in his human form. Unfortunately for her, and for everyone trying to stop Eren and Zeke from getting in contact, Zeke is able to grab Eren's head when he still wasn't fully dead.
  • Pre-Sacrifice Final Goodbye:
    • Colt spends his final moments reassuring Falco that he will always be with him, choosing to die rather than abandon Falco and try to save himself.
    • Mortally wounded by Eren, Galliard makes peace with Reiner and sacrifices himself to save his childhood rival by letting Titan!Falco eat him.
  • Senseless Sacrifice: Colt staying with Falco until his titanization ends up being completely in vain, as Falco devours Galliard minutes later and will turn into a Titan Shifter. Had Colt just stepped back, he would keep both his brother and his life, as Titan!Falco, controlled by Zeke, would probably have rushed to Reiner anyway, without trying to eat Colt.
