Recap / American Dad! S5E20 "Stan's Night Out"

Go To

Stan goes for a night out with his CIA coworkers, which takes one bizarre turn after another.

Tropes:

  • Always a Live Transmission: At the end of the episode, Stan and Francine are watching the garden show again. The host then goes to take a viewer call, who is Stan saying he's going to kill him.
  • As You Know: Subverted. After finding that the car and the kidnapped victims have been taken to Fernando Jaramillo, Stan's coworkers react with horror and he says that, since they all know who he is, he won't have to explain it. Then a janitor says he doesn't know who he is, so Stan explains it.
  • A Day in the Limelight: For Dick, Jackson, and Sanders.
  • Chekhov's Gun: Subverted. At the start of the episode, Stan watches a show that explains how to start a lawnmower on the first try. When he's captured by the crime lord, Stan bets him that he can start his lawn mower on the first try, using the technique he saw earlier. It doesn't work, but gets unexpected help from a mouse named Cheesers. At the end of the episode, Stan calls the host and says he's going to kill him for false or ineffective advice.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Stan is by no means a genius or a good person, but he shows that he's far more smarter and moral compared to how borderline psychotic Dick, Jackson, and Sanders are, and repeatedly tries to be the voice of reason as the night gets more insane.
  • Henpecked Husband: Discussed. Stan's coworkers accuse him of being this and he lashes out at Francine about it. Confused, Francine happily states she's fine with him spending the night with the guys from work if he wants and is surprised Stan thought she'd have a problem.
  • Noodle Incident:
    • All nights out for Dick, Jackson, and Sanders are this. During one, Sanders fought and killed a panda.
    • While Stan is dancing at the restaurant, a young boy tries to dance close to him before his father tells him to stop because he gets molested on a regular basis.
  • Off Screen Moment Of Awesome: Stan unleashes his pet mouse Cheesers on the crime lord, but he only runs away. The next day, Stan is fine because "Cheesers came back."
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: While Stan is no worse for wear the next day, we don't find out if the driver, the cop, and Al survived as well.
