Go To

Spencer is worried knowing that Coach Hudson threatened to blackmail him from playing football his entire freshman year if he doesn't enter Toledo State University, but Billy assures him that he will find a way to resolve it. In the meantime, Billy holds a combine for the Chargers and Eagles, inviting some coaches to attend. Meanwhile, Patience is offered by Layla to tour in Coop's absence, and Olivia is encouraged to become a sponsor at her N.A. meetings.

Tropes featured in this episode:

  • Bait-and-Switch Comment: It looks like J.J. is going to tear Asher a new one for insulting his scholarship offer, only to thank to him for giving him the push for the combine.
  • Friend-or-Idol Decision: Patience is reluctant to accept Layla's offer to tour because it means she will take Coop's place. She ultimately decides to take it, after Coop herself gives her blessing.
  • Green-Eyed Monster:
    • Asher is envious when he learns that J.J. is offered a scholarship at Coastal California, which should have been his if not for his illness. To be fair, he apologizes for it later.
    • Coop is also stung that Patience is about to tour in her place.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: Coach Hudson is discouraged from blacklisting Spencer when Billy threatens to expose his recruiting tactics to the whole country. As in, blackmailing him.
  • Not What It Looks Like: Jenn was taking amphetamine for ballet, but her parents still forced her to attend rehab.
  • Phoneaholic Teenager: Jenn is too obsessed with her phone throughout the duration of the N.A. meeting to pay attention to anything else. At least until Olivia's speech hits too close to home, causing her to leave.
  • There's No Place Like Home: Spencer favors connections above all else, and the scholarship at Golden Angeles University couldn't have been more perfect: not only Kenny, his father's friend, is coaching the team, Jordan will attend there too.
