It's a researcher's duty to use his wisdom and intuition to bring to light historical truths which the ruins would keep secret. I think that Nicholas Locarno wanted to end his Academy career in a blaze of glory, that he convinced the four of you to learn the Kolvoord Starburst for the commencement demonstration. If it worked, it would thrill the assembled guests, and Locarno would graduate as a living legend. Only it didn't work. And Joshua Albert paid the price.
