Basic Trope: A special person has a normal name.
- Straight: John can move objects with his mind.
- Exaggerated: John is God.
- Downplayed: John's middle or last name is extraordinary. (For example, John Omnipotent.)
- Justified:
- John had that name before becoming a psychic.
- "Mom didn't know I was special in that way."
- Inverted: Blazy Fireington has no fire powers at all.
- Subverted:
- John's real name is Cihcysp.
- Alternatively, John had no powers.
- Double Subverted:
- That was a lie made up by Bob.
- That is, until he receives a Power Crystal that does grant him Psychic Powers.
- Parodied: John's attempts to hide his powers are horrible, but everybody still manages to fall for it.
- Zig Zagged: John's name is revealed to be Cihcysp. But that was a lie. But it turns out that John doesn't have any powers at all. But that was also a lie too.
- Averted:
- John doesn't have any powers.
- Or alternatively, his name is just plain out Cihcysp.
- Enforced: "We need to show that sometimes, appearances don't matter! Let's give John psychic powers!"
- Lampshaded: "John! I didn't know you had psychic powers!"
- Invoked: John receives a power crystal that grants him psychic powers.
- Exploited: John uses his name to hide his psychic powers. It may or may not work.
- Defied: John changes his name to Cihcysp.
- Discussed: "I think John here might be extraordinary..."
- Conversed: "What?! John is psychic? I knew it!"
- Implied: When John is around, weird things start to happen.
- Deconstructed: People start becoming paranoid because people with normal names have extraordinary abilities.
- Reconstructed: People like John are more open about their powers to prevent paranoia.
