Basic Trope: A character that was an NPC in the original game becomes a playable character in a sequel.

  • Straight: Adele, a friendly source of information for your party in Divine Hope, joins the party on their adventures in Divine Hope II.
  • Exaggerated: Adele, a minor NPC who welcomes your party to a town in Divine Hope is the sole playable character of Divine Hope II.
  • Downplayed:
    • Adele briefly teams up with party for one mission in Divine Hope II.
    • Adele, a Guest-Star Party Member in Divine Hope, becomes a full party member in Divine Hope II.
  • Justified:
    • The entire party is killed off at the end of the Divine Hope, but several folks they met along the way (including Adele) rise up to take on the quest in Divine Hope II.
    • Adele was a kid in Divine Hope, but is an adolescent in Divine Hope II. She can take care of herself now.
  • Inverted: The entire cast of Divine Hope are NPCs in Divine Hope II; entirely new characters are playable.
  • Subverted: You're excited that Adele, the NPC you knew and loved in Divine Hope comes rushing into battle in Divine Hope II, but then it turns out she's non-controllable and it turns out it's only an event battle.
  • Double Subverted: The event battle uses Action Commands and if you perform really well, you're surprised at the end with Adele joining the party. Otherwise, the opportunity is lost.
  • Parodied: ???
  • Zig Zagged:
    • Adele isn't always playable in the later games.
    • Adele isn't always playable in her first game of availability - her first appearance is unplayable, then you get to play as her for a few missions...
  • Averted: The creators seriously considered including Adele as a playable character, but there was just too much story to tell with the original cast, so they remain the only playable characters.
  • Enforced: The creators never really thought much of Adele, but there was such an outpouring of fan support that they had to make her playable in Divine Hope II.
  • Lampshaded: The party are immediately confused that Adele has such helpful abilities, but didn't join in their first adventure.
  • Invoked: Adele can't stand staying in the sidelines when she feels people need her, so she forces herself into the party.
  • Exploited: The party take advantage of Adele's knowledge upon her arrival, seeing as she was merely someone you talked to to gain information in the first place.
  • Defied: The player characters were so impressed with the advice Adele offered in Divine Hope that they offer her a place in the party in the sequel, but she refuses the call.
  • Discussed: "I wonder if they'll make Adele playable in the sequel. She seems like she has some really good abilities they could have used in this game."
  • Conversed: ???
  • Played For Laughs: Adele joins the party, but her presence is of a comic nature. Her role is really just to lighten the mood in cutscenes and isn't greatly useful in battle.
  • Played For Drama: Several members of the party don't really trust Adele and everyone must struggle with the change in dynamics that comes with the sudden addition of this girl to the formerly cozy group.
