- One of Alice and Bob's friends, Charles, sees Alice at the pharmacy buying pregnancy tests. It's revealed that they're not actually pregnancy tests after all, or at the very least weren't for Alice.
- The reactants that constitute the pregnancy test can be used to test for something else, pregnancy tests are simply the cheapest source that she knows of.
- Alice and her colleagues at ConsuWatch are investigating the (brand of) pregnancy-tests due to a potential scam/scandal. note

- The tests were for Alice's friend Diane, who does need to take a pregnancy test for one reason or another.
