Basic Trope: A character who is gigantic in comparison to humans, but puny by their species' standards.
- Straight: Jason is the tallest member of the Five-Man Band, standing at 6'8. However, he's also a giant, whose average height is somewhere around 8'0.
- Exaggerated: Jason is gigantic to the point where he shouldn't even be considered a party member, and yet he's actually the smallest of his kind.
- Downplayed: Jason is of below average height for his species, but it's only noticeable when he stands close to his kin and it's by less than a head.
- Justified: Jason hangs out with humans because he doesn't like being the runt of the group.
- Inverted: Jason stands at around 5'3, making him the smallest party member, but his species' average is around 3'0, making him a giant by comparison.
- Subverted: "Wait, this guy's 'Runt'? They get bigger?" As it turns out, no: Runt is an Ironic Nickname. He is quite big by his own kind's standards as well.
- Double Subverted: Or at least, he's the largest of his family... all of whom are noticeably smaller than most giants.
- Parodied: Jason is from a species of clones who are measured very precisely and are produced to very close tolerances and look identical but he is a runt because he is ten microns too short. His brother Jacob is called a giant for being seven microns too tall. Everyone else cannot tell the difference without a nametag or a calibrated laser measurer.

- Enforced: Come the second season, the writers decide to put a representative of the giants befriended in the first season in the cast. But giants are so huge there would normally be logistical problems; Jason is the compromise.
- Lampshaded: "If he's the runt, I'd hate to see a big one!"
- Invoked: Jason wants to join the heroes, but they won't let him join because he's too big. To solve this issue, Jason goes to a wizard to shrink himself down to a more practical size.
