Basic Trope: The child of two super-empowered individuals will have an entirely new superpower that is a blending of the parents' abilities.

  • Straight: Blazing Bobby has the power to manipulate heat and flames. Aquatic Alice has the power to manipulate water. Their son, Steamy Stewart has the power to instantly turn water or ice into hot vapor and control mist and fog.
  • Exaggerated: The Almighty, an Artificial Human Super Soldier is a borderline Reality Warper due to being made from every superbeing in existence.

  • Downplayed: Steamy Stewart inherited both of his parents' powers at diminished levels, using them in conjunction to produce his Steam power.
  • Justified: This is how supergenetics works.
  • Inverted: Steamy Stewart and Vapor Valerie have 2 children. One can control heat, the other can only control liquid water.
  • Subverted: Steamy Stewart appears to have powers that are a blend of his parents. However he is actually wearing Powered Armor that produces the effect and has no powers.
  • Double Subverted: At least until an accident causes him to absorb the suit's powers.
  • Parodied: His father was Robert Rift, a superhero with the power to tear holes in the fabric of space. His mother was Dawn Key, famed superheroine capable of controlling mules and donkeys. Their son manifested superpowers and dons a costume as the superhero Captain Asshole! A superhero with the power to send donkeys through rifts in time and space.

  • Zig Zagged: Steamy Stewart appears to have a hybridized ability based off his parents, except his Steam control is actually magic. However, Stewart's superhuman focus is genetic, apparently coming from his parents... Except he actually took a Super Serum to get that. His water breathing however...
  • Averted:
    • Blazing Bob and Aquatic Alice's son has no powers. He's Inert Stewart.
    • Blazing Bob and Aquatic Alice's son, Un-Seen Martín can turn invisible, or some other unconnected power.
    • Blazing Bob and Aquatic Alice have no children.
    • Bob and Alice have no powers.
    • Stewart gains both his parents' powers or only one of them, but not a combination of the two.
  • Enforced: The writers want to give baby Stewart a new power because Bob's flamethrowing and Alice's water powers are getting old to the viewers, butcher also want to be semi-logical with the baby's power and have there to still be some level of family unity when he uses his abilities.

  • Lampshaded: "Who knew superpowers worked on the same properties as skin color when it cam to genetics?"
  • Invoked: Temporal Tommy has the power to fast forward and rewind time around him. Disappearing Diana has the power to teleport from place to place. They intentionally hookup in hopes of producing a spacetime traveler.
  • Exploited: Emperor Evulz is able to deduce Stewart's power by studying his parents, never once having to fight Steamy Stewart to develop counter-measures.
  • Defied: Bobby and Alice, thinking Steam to be a lame power, has their children genetically manipulated to inherit the powerset of just one of them.
  • Discussed: ???
  • Conversed: ???
  • Implied: Steamy Stewart, though having never met his father, knows there's no ancestors on his maternal side that possessed Steam powers.
  • Deconstructed: The incompatibilities of the powers are brought to the forefront. Cursed Charlie suffers if he uses either power and is already an Ill Boy due to incompatible physiology.
  • Reconstructed: Though some powers don't mesh well, they all produce valid abilities. Thus upon mastering his abilities, Cursed Charile is able to work around their problems.

Lamarck Was Right had a baby with Fusion Dance named Hybrid Power.
