Basic Trope: A character has a hairstyle that run in the family.
- Straight: Keith, Bob's son, has the same hairstyle he does.
- Exaggerated:
- Keith's mother, Alice, also shares the same hairstyle.
- Keith's grandfather, Charlie, also shares the same hairstyle, as did every generation of the family.
- Everyone in the family has the same hairstyle.
- Keith's baby sister, Kara, is born with the exact same hairstyle as Alice, including the giant perm and hair accessories.
- Downplayed:
- Keith's hairstyle only looks a little like Bob's.
- Bob and Keith have the same hairstyle, but in different colors; e.g. Bob's hair is black and Keith's is brown.
- They have a similar hair-type thanks to being related, but Bob's hair is wavy while Keith has full-on curls.
- Justified:
- They all have the same taste.
- They all go to the same barber.
- Their hair-style is part of a religious dogma they all respect and cherish.
- Bob looks up to his father as a role model and emulates him as much as possible.
- Their hairtype is very distinct (like tight curls, unusually fine/thick/coarse hair) and it only makes sense that they need to style or take care of their hair in similar manners.
- Inverted: Everyone in the family looks like clones of each other, except for their hairstyles, which are very different.
- Subverted: Keith's hairstyle is the same as Bob's, in the front, but not the back.
- Double Subverted: He cuts the hair on the back, making them identical.
- Parodied: Bob and Keith are humanoid aliens whose hairstyle truly is hereditary.
- Zig Zagged: At first, Keith's hairstyle is the same as Bob's in the front, but not the back. He then gets a haircut to make his hair identical to Bob's, but then Bob gets a haircut to make them different again.
- Averted:
- Each member of the family has a different hairstyle.
- No one is shown as having any relatives.
- Enforced:
- Keith and his entire family are depicted with the same hairstyle to differentiate themselves from other families, as everybody looks the same.
- Fans were uneasy with another set of characters for the sequel. A heavy resemblance to the iconic hairstyles appeased them well.
- Lampshaded: "And this is my father, Bob." "I can see the Strong Family Resemblance, especially in your hair."
- Invoked:
- Keith decides to cut his hair the same way as Bob.
- Keith gets a haircut, and Bob likes it so much that he decides to copy it.
- Exploited: Keith and his friend Jason form a Totem Pole Trench, and are able to pose as Bob because of Keith's hairstyle.
- Defied: Keith dyes his hair blue to differentiate himself from the rest of the family.
- Discussed: "Is it just me, or does Keith and his dad have the same hairstyle?" "It's just you."
- Conversed: "Why does this show insist on taking family resemblance to an extreme?"
- Deconstructed: Once Keith is an adult, people start mistaking him for Bob (or vice versa) because of their identical hairstyle.
- Reconstructed: Bob has a scar on his cheek, making it impossible to confuse him with Keith.
- Played For Laughs: Bob and Keith share a ridiculous hairstyle.
