The Dreamwidth roleplay community has spawned more than a few memes, usually originating from its anonymous discussion communities.
Please add entries in the following format:
- The meme. [[labelnote:Explanation]]The explanation behind the meme, if necessary.[[/labelnote]] Explanation Like this.
- Further mutations and successor memes, if any.
Memes:
- "Does anyone else [x]? I feel like the only one."Explanation A sentiment so commonly seen around the anon communities, usually for very common things, that it became a meme.
- Spooky JamjarExplanation Stems from a submission to roleplaysecrets complaining about "games set in a spooky jamjar." "Jamjar" is now the de facto official term for games with an Ontological Mystery/Closed Circle setting.
- I am a MEDIATOR. I am INVOLVED. DEARIE DEARIE CHILDREN DEARIE. Explanation A player was banned from the game Trans 9 after being very combative over how her character should be played and various instances of Godmodding. She went to another community, decrying the mods and trying to paint herself as a better person, with the mods coming in to defend themselves. A White Knight (a friend of hers) appeared, demanding to see the logs between the player and the game's mods, proclaiming themselves as a mediator and that because of this, they were now involved with the whole bit.
- That [character].Explanation A label applied to the "worst" version of a given character, usually associated with creepy behavior on the player's part. Started with "That Patchouli", infamous for trying to push sex on basically every woman in sight.
- Tits are up!Explanation An anon tried to post "secrets are up" to rpanons. It somehow came out as "tits", which became a Fan Nickname for Roleplay Secrets updates for a while. Also seen as "tits o'clock".
- wgarExplanation A Flat "What" gone terribly wrong. The typoed version was frequently used around the anon community.
- /slides hand up your thighExplanation A phrase that was frequently used to troll around rpanoncomm.
- Keep fucking that chicken.Explanation Commonly used on rpanons/wankgate, its origins are often disputed with seemingly every anonymous commentator having a different story and claiming to be the originator, just another part of its mysterious charm. Usually used to dismiss a comment as unworthy of any reasonable response.
- Because only care about yaoi.Explanation Only being in it to play OOC buttsex is a common accusation leveled at players of slash pairings.
- hi rebutleExplanation Refers to Rebutle, an infamous player from the Livejournal days. While it originally started as a legitimate meme used something like "you're taking this way too seriously", wankgate elevated it to Forced Meme status. Typically accompanied by a "shifty eyed" emote.
- TreegateExplanation Refers to a player from the game Ruby City who apped into the game as a character from Yu-Gi-Oh!, only to quickly turn the character into something decisively not of the canon and spend their first post violating a tree. The mods banned the player, who attempted to stir up trouble over in Wankgate, only to be caught and attempt it again at Dear Mun, earning thirty-six pages of Flat "What" responses in the process.
- Their bodies are of age.Explanation An... awkwardly worded justification for allowing underage characters into The House, a short-lived sex game.
- Rape HouseExplanation The other reason for the game's infamy and short lifespan: a reward system in which characters were paid for committing rape, with the victim receiving a smaller "trauma consolation" prize.
- [STEALS THE BIKE AND RUNS]
- AT LEAST RIDE IT YOU ASSHOLE Explanation Originally an exchange from a Livejournal roleplay group based around Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann called Onlygurrens.
- I have a PhD in N.Explanation Once upon a time, somebody tried to app N Harmonia into a game and was rejected. Their over-the-top rant quickly caught on with anons.
- I have a big imagination. It's full of real things.Explanation From somebody who flipped their lid on rpanons at the mere mention of the supernatural. The memetic line came from an argument about horror movies.
- Palpatine/Sora. Explanation Yes, that Sora. Yes, that Palpatine. Someone was playing them in a sexual relationship in the Livejournal game Pluto IX, apparently in seriousness.
- The tragic Christmas hang-gliding accident. Explanation A post from the roleplay Amatomnes, still fondly remembered to this day for how jarring and ridiculous it was. Details can be found here.
