Heartwarming / Spider-Man: Life Story

Go To

  • From the '60s:
    • While Peter and Flash try to be nice in the going away party, Flash explains his reasons for being willing to go to Vietman: Spider-Man inspired him to be a hero in his own right.
  • From the '70s:
    • A recreation of The Night Gwen Stacy Died. Peter's wife died after being mistaken for a clone, his best friend left him, and he snaps at Mary Jane that he has nothing now. And MJ just gives him the big hug he deserves, beginning their romance proper.
  • From the 80s:
    • Yes they get into another argument and Reed doesn't reappear again with it being implied he was eventually killed by Doom like other heroes (and even if he didn't his age could mean he passed away before that), but the reconciliation between him and Peter is great to see. For context they have seemingly never spoken since 1977 where Peter insulted Reed by bringing up his failed marriage, but during Secret Wars the two forgive each other and start working together after returning to Earth.
  • From the 2000s:
    • Despite all the history between them and his continued hatred for Spider-Man that persisted for decades, Peter still went to Jameson's funeral showing he still cared about him.
      • The annual also revealed that the Gwen Stacy clone is still alive and is pretty happy, and her interactions with Peter suggests he isn't angry anymore or blames her for Gwen's death.
  • From the 2010s:
    • Spider-Man's projection of Aunt May finally gets through to Otto that he has to let go of his jealousy and hate after all this time, and it actually works at last.
Peter: Fought that guy for decades and a memory of you just beat him with a hug...
    • In the mindscape, his vision of Aunt May gives him an affirmation about his life. That he got married, lived a long life, and had healthy kids and a wife. And that even though deep down he still wishes he could save Uncle Ben, but since he can't, he'll have to settle for saving everyone else instead.
    • Peter's final thoughts, of him and Mary Jane together.
Peter: You're my heart Mary Jane Watson. You’re my jackpot.
    • The Venom symbiote uses its final moments to help Peter. Even after its spiteful attempts at revenge in the past, the symbiote was still devoted to Peter deep down.
    • At the start of the issue, Peter starts describing a dream about Uncle Ben's killer to MJ, who assumes that Peter is reliving his greatest failure. The ending reveals that actually Peter is contentedly dreaming about stopping the robber. This version of Peter has managed to move on with his life, and remembers but is no longer defined by Ben's death.
