Go To

In spite of how grim Tassing and Kiersau Abbey are at times, there are a few heartwarming moments to be had.

Unmarked spoilers below.

  • One of your very first side quests is to help the Gertner's with their tax problem. You don't have to do it, since you're already paying them as a boarder, but you can go the extra mile to speak on their behalf.
  • Despite the increased taxes from Kiersau Abbey clearly beginning to ail them, nearly everyone in Tassing is willing to share their table with Andreas in Act I.
  • There are multiple animals in Tassing that you can pet. Seven years later, the animals will still recognize you.
  • If you were nice to Martin during Act I, he'll stop running away from Kiersau abbey long enough to give Andreas a friendly greeting.
    • If he greets Andreas rudely during Act I, seven years later in Act II, the first thing he does when he sees you again is apologize to you for it. It doesn't seem as significant after learning that he was replaced by his former partner in crime Jobst, until you realize that there are very few witnesses to that moment — Martin Bauer was so eaten up by regret over something he said years ago that he told it to one of the few friends he had left, not long before he died
    • Martin in general after Act II has turned his whole life around and wants to become the best father and husband that he can be.
  • Regardless of any hatred Andreas has for Father Gernot, he will adamantly refuse to let him get murdered by the townsfolk.
    • Father Gernot himself at the end of Act II. He truly doesn't care about the suffering of the peasants if it means that the abbey stays standing, and ends up imprisoned within its library before the abbey is burned down. Yet, he tries to stop the soldiers from slaughtering the townspeople.
    • If Andreas reports Guy's embezzling to Gernot, he thanks you and acknowledges that he has never doubted your dedication to Kiersau, the one thing you have in common.
  • The fate of Andreas's hat is heartwarming. If you eat supper with Brother Sebhat, it gets stolen by Anna Albanyn. If you never get it back, she's wearing it in Act II, and has patched it up over the years. Later, in Act III, she gives it to her daughter Ulrike. Andreas has had such a big impact on her despite knowing her for so little, that she's willing to treat something from him as a family heirloom, and pass it down to her own children.
    • In Act III Hans Bauer wears his father's hat, and his adopted son is wearing his old one.
  • Caspar is Andreas' apprentice, and there are several opportunities to treat him with love and respect, as you would your own son. Unfortunately, being kind to him will end in his death, but he dies saving your life.
  • If you convince Paul Müller to pursue art in spite of his father's wishes, you can see him watching his son as he sketches in Act III. The name of the son? Andreas.
    • In fact, Andreas Müller would be the artist of the family tree in the ending.
  • Lenhardt's death signals the end of the abuse that both Else and Paul suffer at his hands. Twenty years later, and the two are content with their lives.
  • Act II shows the Gertner family in incredibly dire straits, and it seems that little Ursula will die of illness soon. Twelve years later, she's alive and well.
  • If you visit the monks holed up in the library in Act II, Rüdeger will be extremely distressed. You can help by encouraging him to sing, which he does hesitantly before gaining confidence. In turn, all of the brothers listening are calmed by his voice.
  • The fate of both Brother, now an Archdeacon, Mathieu and Brother Rüdeger in Act III. They are still together 18 years after Act II.
  • Veronica sometimes keeps Sister Amalie, who generally lives a life of solitude (not counting her window that allows her to interact somewhat with the outside world), company.
  • The townspeople in general speak about Andreas very fondly, and dearly miss him at the ends of Acts I and II.
  • You really have to go out of your way to compliment Werner, but doing so results in him making peace with his life in Tassing. In Act III he is far happier and more generous, and the townsfolk appreciate him much more in turn.
    • Werner can sponsor Krafft's education if the latter develops an interest in medicine. The final mural then shows the two doctors together.
  • After all the years of caring for her children, Clara finds that they don't need her as much as they used to. Magdalene tells her that she and her father need to be cared for, and Clara happily offers to look after them.
  • Magdalene's goodbye hug to Andreas at the end of the game. Andreas clearly doesn't know what to do with it, but he seems to appreciate it all the same.
Magdalene: Thank you for everything you've done for my family. God bless you, Andreas Maler.
    • Magdalene's goodbyes to everyone, as it's clear that they love her and will miss her.
  • If you keep a cordial relationship with Otz, he will ask you if you're sure you'd rather leave Tassing than marry him. You can make the offer for him to come with you, but he hesitates at first. When the epilogue comes around, he leaves for Prague to join her.
