The methods and evidences of Act I suspects.
  • While the game is vague on the truth of the killer ( at least directly), there are hints and methods for each suspected killer along with problems with deductions.
    • Prior Ferenc's motive was his fear of being blackmailed by the Baron, who would have him tried by the Inquisition for his occult practices. This and the fact that he buried the bloodied silver rod—implying that he smashed the Baron's head with it—and other evidence into Gerhad's grave at the same time of Baron's death. However, said blood can be from Ferenc cutting himself for rituals.
    • Sister Matilda's past involved the Baron beating her up for refusing his advances. She also had a bloody shovel, which she claimed to be from pests she killed but similar in size to his headwound and close to the Chapterhouse where the Baron died. Alternatively, she could be telling the truth as a potential murderer would have cleaned or hidden the shovel rather than taking it out for use during the investigation.
    • Lucky lost his eldest daughter from a botched attempt to terminate her pregnancy from her romantic liaison with the Baron, who seduced and abandoned her. As Lucky was a strong mason (or carrying any blunt tools as weapons) and knew about Abbey's secret entrance, he could have snuck in and murdered the baron. He also had a similar note to the Baron's own as they reminded both of them of the death of Lucky's daughter. There are also considerations of his large size that would have been noticed by any monk working near the Chapterhouse between night and dawn. Unless he used a hammer from his mason tools, the wound wouldn't match his likely method of killing even if he had impressive strength. Furthermore, Lucky was unable to comprehend the meaning of the note and most likely throws off any potential investigators from the true culprit along with causing the Baron to hide in Chapterhouse out of panic.
    • Ottila hated the Baron for her husband's death. She also has a broken wooden cane with a head that had similar size to Baron's head wound. This poses two issues since Ottila's age won't allow her to get to the abbey and not strong enough to kill him in one blow.
Marie died giving birth to Magdalene.
  • Considering the dangerous nature of pre-modern births, she may have died from birth complications when she had Magdalene.
The methods and evidences of Act II suspects.
  • Similiar to previous Act, the mystery of Act II didn't reveal the true culprit. Three of them—Martin, Brother Guy, and Hanna had their alibis but also their testimony on their innocence.
    • Martin was actually his partner, Jobst, who posed as him after the death of real!Martin. Otto had coerced him into supporting him and likely know his secret, which the note would have drove him to murder. However, fake!Martin was spending time with his "wife" during the festival and shown to be decent person despite his temper and alcoholism.
    • Brother Guy had embezzled the money from the Abbey as financial support for persecuted Jewish families in Holy Roman Empire due to his heritage as one such group who had to convert to Christianity in France. As he was under pressure to hand over the financial record to peasants, Guy would be driven to cut the ropes carrying a set of stone bricks on top of Otto. Furthermore, he would be close to murder site as he visited Tassing Church for confession as doing so at the abbey would have revealed his embezzlement. Despite these points, he spent most of the time at the abbey for covert money transfer and the worse he commited on Otto was conjuration a (sham) occult circle to curse him.
    • As Hanna was owner of Golden Hand Inn and lack sympathy for the peasants of Tassing, she would view Otto as a threat to her business. Furthermore, she was near the exit of the Roman ruins where the suspect possible ran away. This is further evidenced by her "accidentally" spilling drinks on Werner if Andreas conversed with him about her being suspect. She had knowledge in Italian language enough to understand both of their conversation done in such manner to avoid suspicion by potential suspects who mostly spoke German. However, as the exit of the ruins require tools to be removed, her appearance on such places were circumstancial and her surprise might have been fear of false accusation.
Thomas
is behind the "fix the hinges" proposal
  • While Paul is behind the proposal, as a friend of the council, Thomas would have had the influence to propose the new rule to Paul. It would have made it easy for him to snoop on Magdalene (and the Rathouse sketches) or any other resident under the guise of inspecting buildings. It would also make his sneaking about far easier if he ever needed to deliver more notes.
