Heartwarming / Lewis

Go To

  • The strangely endearing sight of Hathaway relaxing in his stocking feet in "Life Born of Fire".
  • Hathaway staying all night to organize the case in "Old, Unhappy, Far-Off Things".
  • Lewis' anger at the intoxicated driver in 'Whom the Gods Would Destroy'.
    • "Happy birthday, bonnie lass."
  • In the Season 1 finale, Lewis telling Innocent that if she demotes Hathaway back to uniform, he's going with him. It works, and Hathaway keeps his job, but Lewis gets stuck with giving a speech he really doesn't want to.
  • "Well her name was Mrs. Valerie Lewis, and she was married to Inspector Robert Lewis. My boss. So maybe you'd like to deal with that."
  • Lewis, after being offered a card for a dating site:
Lewis: Thanks, but I was lucky. I had the best.
  • When Lewis is trying to get a grasp on Hathaway's sexuality, and when realizing that his sergeant is not going to be forthcoming, simply tells him that either way it won't make a difference to their team-work.
  • In "The Ramblin' Boy", the detective constable who worked with Lewis reveals that when he was 16 and his father died suddenly, it was Lewis who helped him through it. Lewis doesn't remember him...but he remembers Lewis.
"He doesn't remember. I'll never forget."
  • Lewis finding Second Love with the level-headed and kind Laura Hobson, his faithful friend for all those years. Sometimes you really do get a second chance.
  • After the falling-out in "Life Born of Fire" leaves Lewis temporarily without the assistance of his sergeant, Innocent remarks that her main job as sergeant was to be her DI's sounding board, and offers to do the same for Lewis when he's trying to get through the wall he's up against. It's a surprisingly nice moment of helpfulness and teamwork for the two of them, given that they're often at odds. (And they crack the last clue in time to save Hathaway.)
