Heartwarming / Joker: Folie à Deux

Go To

While the first film was about Arthur's Start of Darkness and his descent in his persona as the Joker, this one is about him discovering a romance in the form of the chaotic and enduring Harley Quinn.

General

  • Just the fact that unlike how their relationship is typically depicted, what we've seen of Arthur and Harleen's relationship is one of mutual love and affection. Instead of a psychopathic madman manipulating an emotionally vulnerable if volatile woman, they're shown as two broken people who have found in each other something they've been looking for their whole lives: love.

Teaser Trailer

  • The scene where Arthur and Harley are watching a film at Arkham with the other inmates such as when Harley tentatively reaches for Arthur's hand before pulling back out of nervousness like a smitten girl. There's also Arthur's reaction when Harley suggest getting out of there. note  The two of them come off like a pair of teenagers on their first date.
  • While most of the sequences of Arthur and Harley's romance are elaborate musical fantasies taking place in their heads, at least one isn't: a scene of them dancing in the rain on the streets of Gotham, looking blissfully happy together.
  • Arthur is questioned by a psychiatrist if anything has changed. His response? "I'm not alone anymore."
  • While it points the level of madness they're suffering from, the Imagine Spots provide some of these, in particular since its in contrast to the last film where Arthur's relationship with Sophie was fabricated pointing to the depths of his loneliness, here they demonstrate how happy he's become with Harleen.
    • The "Hotel Arkham" scene where Arthur (in a tuxedo and Joker makeup) performs a waltz with Harley dressed in a beautiful dress as the song for the trailer picks up and reveals it to be an incredible rendition of "What the World Needs Now Is Love".
    • One of the scenes shows them at a chapel with Harley wearing a wedding dress, meaning that they're possibly going to get married.
  • Seven words from Harley to Arthur: "I want to see the real you."
  • The final shot of the trailer features Harley drawing a lipstick smile on the safety glass and Arthur giving a matching smile with the lipstick overlaying it. It's one of the few times we've ever seen him legitimately happy.
