Heartwarming / Águila Roja

Go To

  • When Gonzalo and Sátur believe their sons to be dead, the latter turns against the former and accuses him with stone-hard voice of having attracted God's punishment on them for seeking out the supposed sucessor of Christ. Eventually Gonzalo decides to leave the city and travel to some remote place where he can end his days, but before he can get away, Sátur catches him and forcefully gets aboard his cart to tell him that if he is going anywhere, he will have to take his servant with him, because the bond that unites them goes beyond any pain or tragedy they might suffer. Even harboring ill thoughts against Gonzalo to the point to accuse him of having caused the death of ther sons, Sátur is still determined to accompany him whatever their fate is.
  • Santiago's speech after he has helped Gonzalo to get rid of the fake Águila Roja and is getting himself ready to leave.
"My dear friend Gonzalo. I can't wait more for Sátur, my time is over. You have given me some life. For those things a man gets when death is over him, I decided to take a journey to say goodbye to all the people who never left my memory.
What I didn't expect was that in this road I would find the most incredible experience in my life. I'm dying, but I have never felt more alive. Thank you for giving me this present, thank you. Life is a screwed up thing, but what the hell, it ''is'' worth living."
    • Especially touching for the fact that Enrique San Francisco, the actor who plays Santiago, was an heroine addict for many years until he eventually found a reason to live and overcome his addiction.
  • When Lucrecia is arrested by the French constables, Nuño threatens Olivia with killing her if she doesn't revoke the papers Lucrecia signed up, but she talks him out of it, as he does not have the courage to carry out his threat. Then he gives this speech.
"When I was a child, I didn't stop crying. My mother thought I was bored for not having a brother, so she ordered to make the best toy horse a child could wish, but I kept crying. Afterwards, she gave me an actual horse, but I kept crying. She ordered to build an entire room filled with toys to the ceiling, but I kept crying. The only moment of the day I stopped crying was when my mother came from partying at night and kissed me. I know that my mother is an egotist and a liar, and that she has never properly taken care of me. But she is all I have got in live, and you are going to take it from me. I wish I had the courage to kill you. Because that is what you deserve."
    • Awesomely enough, it actually manages to do the change of heart on Olivia that she needs to go to rescue Lucrecia.
  • Gonzalo and Malasangre's dialogue after the former clears the room where the Inquisition has the latter.
Gonzalo: I'm here to free you. Go!
Malasangre: No, no, don't do it. Don't spend your energy on me.
Gonzalo: (shocked) You are an innocent man. This is what I do.
Malasangre: Well, if you save innocents, there is none in this cell.
Gonzalo: But you don't deserve to die beheaded for what you did.
Malasangre: Oh, I always look for the silver lining. Burning in a stake would be worse.
Gonzalo: If you allow them to execute you, the bigots who condemned you will win.
Malasangre: Ah, there is no empty space for more experiences on me. I stop here. But I depart from this world a satisfied man, oh yeah.
Gonzalo: Are you sure? (Malasangre nods grinning) Then it's time to say goodbye to each other.
Malasangre: Yes. Gonzalo de Montalvo... Although you don't acknowledge it, I know you actually like me.
Gonzalo: Only sometimes. But I'm glad... to have met you.
Malasangre: Me too. You would have been a great king, believe it or not.
