- Is it ever explained why a school with a student population of 1,000 only accepted 5 male students the first year that it wend co-ed? Did the USC somehow manage to interfere with male applicants?
- It's probably a trial-run of sorts. As we can see he prison facilities were installed before the students were even enrolled, they probably knew ahead of time how many male students they were willing to accept. And since the program operates with full knowledge and consent of the Chairman, it's very likely that 5 was the maximum number of people they believed they could reliably monitor and keep in control. Then, if there were no problems, they might allow more male students to enter in greater volume in the following years.
- Why is it Shingo, whenever he gets time off doesn’t just run to the actual police and tell them about how inhuman the prison school is? Come to think of it Why didn’t Kiyoshi do this instead of go to the Sumo match?
- Something like that would probably lead the school to get shut down, even if only for a few years, due to the scandal it would cause (locking up the entire male student body for an extended period of time with periodic physical abuse? On MINORS? No way that would fly). Which would force the boys to have to go to a different school. Their goal is to finish their sentence and resume their school lives at the school, not just to escape from the prison. If their only goal was freedom there wouldn't even be a conflict in the first place as they would just accept the President's decision to expel them and that would be that. Telling the police or anyone else doesn't actually get them closer to their goal.
