  • On one of his episodes, Brennan jokingly confesses that the only reason he's so pedantic is because he wants someone to put him in his place. Mike Trapp agrees that "that's what we all want, we're all begging for someone to put you in your fucking place."
  • The second episode of season 8 of Um, Actually has a statement involving a list of Star Wars names. One of the contestants guesses that "Ruud Gullit" is too ridiculous even for Star Wars. Trapp tells him that he's right in that the name was added by them... but also that it's the name of a Dutch football player. The contestant immediately turns to the camera to apologize to Mr. Gullit.
  • The Switcheroo episode of Um, Actually note  features a "Celebrity Guest question" read by Brennan Lee Mulligan. Zac Oyama's answer?
Zac: Um actually, Brennan's not a celebrity.
    • From the same episode, Ify accidentally calls Mike Trapp "Matt". Haley buzzes in and corrects him, and Ify gives her the point.
  • From the trailer for Um, Actually Season 9 (which had Ify take over as host due to Trapp having other filming commitments, and Brian David Gilbert becoming the new fact checker at the same time):
    • Trapp explains to Saltzman that he's a Time Lord as he regenerates. Saltzman's response is "Oh, like how Doctor Who does?", and the conversation promptly turns into a back-and-forth of "Um, actually"s as each makes various errors about the show. Trapp's last words end up being "You didn't say 'Um, Actually!'"
    • Then, after Ify has taken in his "new appearance", BDG just walks on and declares that he, Michael Saltzman, has also regenerated. Both Ify and the real Saltzman immediately point out that Companions don't regenerate. And naturally, given the type of audience this show attracts, the comments on the YouTube post of the trailer are filled with people pointing out that Um, Actually, at least one companion (Romana) was a Time Lady who did, in fact, regenerate (and several arguments about whether Donna expelling the Meta-Crisis Doctor and Mels regenerating before she became a sort-of Companion count)note .
  • For the second episode of season 9, one of the shinies involve tasting different branded wines for popular culture properties, including one for The Lord of the Rings. After the players wonder what that wine is named, Brian David Gilbert says he googled it and it's just called elf wine... And then has to correct himself because instead of elf wine, the article he checked was actually talking about Elfwine, first son of king Éomer.
    Grant: SALTZMANN, GET OVER THERE!
