- Kabane's lack of reaction, social skills and common sense often lands on either side and makes up much of the story's surreal horror and humor. So does everyone's reaction.
- Inugami delivers a proof of kemono's existence by pulling down his pants and showing Kabane his bake-tanuki tail.
- Akira gets caught in trap Shiki laid for Kabane while taking one of his beloved baths.
- Shiki and Akira manage to score an apparently important suitcase from Kon. They find Kabane's severed head inside, who casually talks to Shiki and thanks him for getting him out. Shiki understandably freaks out while Akira faints.
- Shiki also yells at Kabane's head to shut up after being asked to throw him at Kon.
- Even when the three make it back to the agency, Akira is still muttering about Kabane's head.
