Just because it's a crime procedural doesn't mean there isn't the occasional laugh.
- In the pilot, Clarice explains her theory that the "serial killer" is actually trying to cover up another crime by recounting how, when she was a child, she smashed a cookie jar in order to distract her parents from the fact that she'd eaten all the Santa cookies in it, while leaving the other cookies alone. When Equivel asks why she ate only the Santas, her explanation is simple - they had more frosting.
- In "You Can't Rule Me", Murray is stuck working the tips hotline while VICAP is under investigation, and has to deal with a woman who thinks that her ex stealing her underwear is a federal crime.
- The opening of "Get Right with God" sees the camera panning over a room full of immobile coma patients while "Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now)" blares over the soundtrack. Then the camera pans out to reveal that a janitor is listening to the song on his Walkman while cleaning up.
- As the other VICAP agents realize that Clarice is missing, Murray asks Ardelia if it's possible that Clarice is on a date. Ardelia responds with a withering look that could be read as either "It's Clarice, she doesn't date" or "she's my roommate, you idiot."
