Just about every one of Axel Foley's scenes could be considered a supremely funny moment, but some of the best exchanges in the films occur between Taggart and Rosewood.
- During the Storming the Castle sequence in the film, Taggart and Rosewood are pinned behind some statuary while goons with Uzis blast away at them. Rosewood goes into perhaps the greatest By-the-Book Cop moment ever seen on film.Rosewood: (standing up, holding his badge) Police! You are all under arrest!
(Goons blast away, forcing him to duck.)
Taggart: If you do that again, I'll shoot you myself.- It's made even funnier by the final scene in this sequence, when about four uniformed police officers rush in and all aim their shotguns in unison.
Rosewood: (standing up again) Police! You are all under arrest! Lay down your weapons in front of you, and take two steps back with your hands up!
Taggart: (still ducking) Pretty good.
Rosewood: (grinning broadly) Great!- While they're under fire from Maitland's goons, Rosewood cheerfully says that this reminds him of the ending of Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid. You know, the Trope Namer for Bolivian Army Ending? Taggarts expression probably matches the audiences; what exactly did Rosewood think happened when Butch Cassidy were outgunned and out of ammo at the end?
- There's also the moment at the end where the Beverly Hills Chief of Police confronts Axel after the massive shootoutChief: What's this man doing here?Axel: Bleeding, sir.
- While waiting for Jenny at the art gallery, Axel talks to Serge, the Camp Gay manager, and asks him how much one of the art installations, a rather... unique piece consisting of a dinner table with mannequin heads on rotating plates among other details, costs. Serge reveals that a copy recently sold for $100,000! Axel is understandably surprised.
- Chief Hubbard takes Lieutenant Bogamil into his office to demand an answer to Axel's antics. Axel takes the opportunity to mock himAxel: (imitating Hubbard) Is this the man who destroyed the buffet at the Beverly Club?Taggart: For Christ's sake shut the hell up!Axel:(glibly) What he can't hear me, can he?EVERY detective in the BHPD "YES!"
