Fridge Brilliance:

Fridge Logic:

  • What happens to people's and businesses' copyright on Strangers who were manifested by the Xanadu event? What happens to copyrights on fictional species or magic systems, that had been fictional at the time they were created, but are now real?
  • What are the long-term social, political, economic, and environmental effects of people being turned into previously-fictional beings by a magic spell cast at a cosplay convention?

Fridge Horror:

  • Scenes of Mermaids trying to live on land show them dependent on mobility aids and running water to maintain a terrestrial lifestyle. Mermaids who become homeless or impoverished are pretty much restricted to the water without financial support.
  • A lot of characters were turned into species, or mix-and-match hybrids thereof, that had been fictional and someone's copyrighted intellectual property — or in some cases, specific fictional characters themselves. Which is stronger — copyright law, or legal personhood? Does the 13th amendment even prevent fictional characters made real from being owned by their copyright holders? Are people who are turned into fictional species even allowed to use their own image and likeness without paying copyright royalties?
  • Since some stories establish that souls exist in the Xanadu storyverse, what happens to the souls of those who suffered a Death of Personality when their body was taken over by a Stranger?
  • Was the Xanadu Event a one-off incident, or is it replicable?
