Fridge / 36 Hours (1965)

• Fridge Horror:
  • It's not revealed what happened with Elsa after Schack finds out she's a part of the smuggling ring. One hopes he didn't do anything except threaten her...
  • The film lays bare in stark clarity the dehumanizing effect Nazi cruelty wrought on its victims. Anna herself admits that in the name of survival she stole food from other inmates at Ravensbrueck. For a film produced in the 1960s and subject to The Hays Code, that was a bold step to take.
• Fridge Logic:
  • Anna states she was "in Auschwitz, then Ravensbrueck", for a total of five years in the two concentration camps. However, Jefferson Pike, an intelligence officer, would likely have been briefed on the state of Allied knowledge of the camps (and while it was sketchy during the war, it was not a complete unknown fact, since he asks "which one?" as soon as he sees her tattoo) - including the fact that Auschwitz only got started in 1940. So it's actually more likely to have gone the other way: Ravensbrueck in 1939, and then Auschwitz later. By purposely giving the wrong order, she was trying to tip off Jeff that not all was as it seemed to be.
  • Elsa might have gotten a reprieve, if Schack had reported her to his bosses not too long before he was shot "attempting to flee the Reich". His superiors might have assumed he was trying to set her up to take the fall for his own corruption.
