Fridge Brilliance

  • At one point, we find out Tempi gets paid twenty times as much as an average mercenary, and when asked if he's worthy twenty man in combat, he answers that he gets that much because they are buying not only his services, but everything behind it, and he's actually worth four men in combat. We later find out that actually no more than the 20% of it goes to Tempi. And if you do the math, the 20% of 20 is actually four.
  • Any time in the series when Kvothe tests the reader's suspension of disbelief? He himself has admitted that he's an Unreliable Narrator. There's no way he would be even close to objective about the Edema Ruh, or probably the Adem as well. He also more or less admitted to Chronicler in the beginning of Book 1 that he would be exaggerating some bits and cutting out others.

Fridge Horror

  • Life as a male Adem. The matriarchal Adem believe that men are physically, mentally and morally inferior to women and also have no involvement in reproduction. Even the most patriarchal Earth societies understand that women have a role in the perpetuation of the species and ascribe women some special or vital domain, even if they are sometimes backhanded compliments like "innocence" and "domesticity." Male Adem, on the other hand, literally believe that they are inferior in every respect to their countrywomen, offer nothing to the world, and are completely superfluous. That's a heavy existential burden to live under.

Fridge Logic

  • For Kvothe's friends at the University and in Imre to believe him dead for most of a year after his departure, Maer Alveron must not have written Count Threep in that time in order to thank him for the introduction of the talented young musician & arcanist who saved his life and successfully helped him woo his wife (the task he requested a young musician/poet for in the first place).
