Fridge Horror:

  • Finding out the truth about C.B. puts a whole new spin on "There's Me".
    • Try listening to "There's Me" on the original London cast recording after learning that Michael Staniford, who originated the role of C.B., died of AIDS three years after the show opened.
  • Try listening to this part of 'Poppa's Blues' after reminding yourself that Starlight Express was created in The '80s, and HIV/AIDS is spread through bodily fluids:
Never borrow a mouth organ, not even from your best friend / 'Cause you may survive the blowing, but the sucking's gonna get you in the end!
  • When you think about the fact that C.B. is Ax-Crazy, Electra and most of the female coaches are sexualised to all hell, and that there are so many double entendres throughout the musical, the fact that a young child is controlling and overseeing all of this just seems really off.
    • This is especially horrifying because of the degree of control that Control is implied to have over the trains, with the notable exception of the steam engines, in 'Light At The End Of The Tunnel':
Greaseball: You mean I could be converted to steam?
Poppa: Sure could! And with steam, you'd be under your own control!

Fridge Brilliance:

  • Brexit's tie is purple and yellow, which seems completely insignificant until you realise that purple and yellow are the logo colours of UKIP, a right-wing British party that are possibly the biggest supporters of Britain leaving the EU.
