  • As noted in Covers Always Lie, the posters promoting the film always placed Mandy Moore in the center with a drawn-on halo and placed Jena Malone off to the side with similarly drawn on devil horns, making it look like Moore is playing the main character and protagonist, while Malone is the antagonist, when in fact the opposite is true. While part of this is because Mandy Moore was the most recognizable actor in the film at that time, the posters almost make more sense if you consider them skewed towards the POV of Hilary, Moore's character: She's a Bitch in Sheep's Clothing and Egocentrically Religious, so she probably would consider herself the hero of the story. The fact that the halo and horns look drawn on even makes it seem like the poster image is some club yearbook photo that was either vandalized by Hilary herself or a similarly biased classmate.
  • Mary's vision of Jesus might have been for real; he tells Mary to help Dean, but he doesn't say anything about curing Dean's homosexuality.
