In the climax, Cable sacrifices his life to save the entire human race from extinction at the hands of Legion by destroying SAINT with an EMP. This would be a touching Redemption Equals Death moment... except the EMP bomb also simultaneously knocks out all of Old Detroit's power, a city shown to run mostly on technology. We even hear the screams of the city from a distance in the ending, but any damage or casualties is reduced to a sardonic "they'll probably blame me for this" by SAINT's creator.
