• The way magic now works exaggerates the power of friendship theme to the point that the general safety of the world is even worse than the previous installment. In the past, you had to be nice to each other or else supernatural monsters would plunge the land into an Endless Winter. Here, you have to be nice to each other or else you'll risk being rooted into the ground and helpless as endless voids begin opening in the ground to swallow everything. Earth Ponies may have finally gotten more obvious magical abilities, but they still got the shorter end of the stick consequence wise. Though it is mitigated somewhat by the fact that it took months of quiet resentment and unrest for things to get as bad as they did.
• Opaline confirms that alicorns are immortal, which means that Twilight probably did outlive her friends despite the staff of My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic claiming that she wouldn't. This also means that Celestia, Luna, Cadance, and Flurry Heart are still around somewhere, assuming that they weren't sealed away or didn't disappear, among other reasons.
  • Alicorns at least can't die of natural causes... but that doesn't necessarily mean they can't be killed.
